Are They Really Problems?

*
Yesterday was Shyanne's busy day. School, followed by Chess club. Dinner as soon as she walks in the door after dance was followed by homework, get washed up and into pajamas and then off to bed.

She still woke up around 10:00pm as we were watching the end of Alcatraz. (I had to DVR it as DW was at a PTA meeting). She didn't like it and covered her face while she sat with us. She then went into bed, but at some time during the night she came into our bedroom and when I awoke this morning, I found her lying in the bed between DW and I.

It has been a long time since that happened, and I am not sure why it did last night. Whether or not Alcatraz caused her some problems or not, I don't know. It just seems to be too easy an excuse to make for kids. "Scary movies or TV shows give them nightmares etc etc."

Today Shy will go to her play therapist after school so maybe she will be able to shed some light on it. Like I said, it hasn't happened since well before we went away on our trip, so I don't think it is a real problem, but I want to be sure we keep it from becoming that.

I think a lot of times the things we see as "problems" for Shyanne are really our own problems. Whether it be coming into our room at night, getting angry over something that is really meaningless, coming crying to us when there is absolutely no reason, or yelling at us when nothing happened. We want to assign every issue a reason, when in reality, we just have to realize she is 6 years old and these things would happen regardless of her past....right???

Appointment, Visit, Disney

*
(S) had an appointment with the therapist yesterday. We are still trying to concentrate on the sleeping issue and getting her to stay an entire night in her own room. I guess we are going to start moving her a foot at a time from where she is sleeping closer to her room. I don't know if we are betting she doesn't notice, or thinking she will notice and it just won't bother her anymore. As long as it works, I really don't care. We are now going to see the therapist every other week instead of every week.

(S)s case worker came by yesterday for her monthly visit. I am still out of state so I didn't get to talk with her, but DW did. When asked about the case and if anyone knew what was happening, the answer, of course, was that they don't know anything. She said she had talked with the DA and he had no idea where it was. The CW also added that she had one case that had taken a year. We don't know if that was start of TPR proceedings to end of appeal, or just the appeal process. If it was just the appeal process, it is time to scream with frustration. If it was from start to finsih, then it shouldn't be long before we scream with excitement. The start of the TPR process was just about this time last year. We will keep our fingers crossed.

We also have all the permissions in place to take (S) to Disney World. We have been talking it up with her and making sure she knows that there are many characters there. She says she is fine with that. I guess Chuck E Cheese is more of a rat while Mickey of course is a mouse. I don't know, but she likes Mickey. In any event, we have made our plane reservations and also have made reservations for:

Bibiddi Bobiddi Boutiue where she will get all dolled up like a Princess. (Hair, Nails, Makeup)

After the boutique, we are having dinner with Cinderella in the castle.

We are also going to have lunch one day with Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Eeyore.

The above are all at the Magic Kingdom.

We have reservations for Breakfast with Donald Duck in Animal Kingdom

We are still deciding what, if any, character meal we will do in Epcot.

We are only 6 weeks away from leaving for Florida, so we are getting REAL excited!!! Can't wait. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, things not to miss etc, please let us know.

Any ideas?

*
As most of you who have been reading this blog know, we have had trouble getting (S) to go to bed in her room and stay there.

We have solved the problem with getting her to go to sleep in her room. We set up a DVD player and let her watch movies in her bed until she falls asleep. While it is not something I would normally condone, we think it is best that she fall asleep in her own bedroom instead of on the couch in the den.

What we still haven't solved is the getting up in the middle of the night and coming to sleep on the floor in our room. At one point she had mentioned monsters so we sprayed her room with "Monster Elimination Spray" (available at fine stores everywhere). That seemed to work a little bit for a couple of days, but it is no longer solving the problem.

We haven't been sure what to do because we didn't know why she preferred sleeping on the floor in our room. Last night something happened that I think says it all.

(S) had fallen asleep in her room and I had turned off the TV and tucked her in for the night (or at least until she woke up and came into our room). DW and I were still in the den watching TV and we heard (S) get up. We figured it wouldn't be long before she was in the den, so we waited. Next thing, we are just hearing some crying that is more than the normal crying. I went out into the hall to see her walking back into her bedroom fron our bedroom crying. I spoke up and she turned around and came to me and hugged me.

It turned out that when she didn't see us in the bedroom she thought we had left. I don't know where she thought we had gone, or what she was going to do in her room alone, or why we had even left.

While most nights she sleeps next to DW on the floor, on a rare occasion she will sleep next to me on the floor. Either way, it is near impossible to move out of the bed without nearly stepping on her, and probably waking her up. The answer now is becoming clearer. I think she is just afraid of losing us. That would also explain why it started when she was visiting with bio-mom and dad in their "home to be" where she had her own bedroom and there were unsuprvised visits. There had to be talk about her living there, and since she has no real memory of living anywhere but with us, it obviously caused her a great deal of concern.

OK, so if we have correctly identified the root of the problem, we should be able to solve it, right? So what do we do? Any ideas are appreciated.

Monster Spray and Hide and Seek

*
So (S) still does not sleep in her room the whole night. She was at the play therapist who she told there were monsters in her room. So she suggested we get some monster spray to rid the room of the monsters. Last night I got the spray out and sprayed the entire room. Apparently I missed a few spots.

(S) came in our room again last night and advised there were still monsters under her bed, in her dresser and in her closet. So tonight (S) helped spray so we could ensure we got the whole room sprayed.

I am not optimistic. She is a smart girl and I don't think she really believes in the spray, but I am willing to give anything a shot........

On the other hand, how smart can she really be. Last night DW and I were cleaning up after dinner and I looked over and saw (S). She was crouched behind a small planter. As I looked over she put her hands over her eyes and started counting. I was now deeply involved in what was happening behind the planter. when she got to 4 she uncovered her eyes and said

OOOOOHHHHH! I found myself!!

That's right folks. She was playing Hide and seek with herself.
